The #1 Misconception About Reiki: What You Need to Know
If you're even remotely intrigued by Reiki, you'll want to read this...
One of my distance Reiki clients recently set up an appointment for her husband. He and I had never worked together and I could tell going in that he was a little skeptical (I do read energy, after all). I wondered why she'd scheduled a session for him because, although I knew very little about him, I was aware that he was in top-notch health.
About five minutes into his distance Reiki session, I picked up on these headaches he was getting; the pain was very specific in intensity and placement and I could actually feel it in my own head.
Right away, I asked if he was dealing with headaches, particularly in that area (when I do distance Reiki, I am on the phone with my client the entire time). He was completely stunned because I was able to describe the exact pain he felt, but also because he said he never, ever got headaches and these had just started that week.
After spending a few more minutes looking into what could be causing his headaches, I received a very strong feeling it was because he needed to get his eyeglass prescription updated. When I asked him if he was due for new glasses, he replied that he in fact was but he hadn't gotten around to it yet.
I spoke with that client the other day, and he reported that shortly after his Reiki session he got new glasses, and ever since, his headaches have completely disappeared. He wanted me to share this story because prior to working together, he thought Reiki was only about stress relief or helping one to become more mindful. Upon further reflection, he admitted that he wondered how much time, energy, and money he would have spent worrying and trying to figure out what could be wrong, when getting some insight was as easy as a quick phone call.
Reiki is so much more than a tool for relaxation, and the right practitioner should absolutely be able to give you specific information on not just what is wrong, but how you may be able to fix it.
Sometimes the answer is as simple as updating your eyewear, and sometimes it entails having your primary care physician run specific tests you may not have normally requested. I firmly believe that Reiki works with--not against--modern medicine and that it is a brilliant way to help get to the root of signs your body sends you to tell you something isn't quite right.
